709th MP Bn Assn History
The 709th Military Police Battalion Association started with a group of six who were all stationed together in Kassel, Germany with Company D of the 709th from 1955 - 1957. They mainly stayed in touch via Christmas cards and occasional get-togethers. At some point, Brad Mitton decided to try and enlarge the group to include all eras, and all companies. At the present, there are currently 375 members. There are members who were with the battalion when it was first formed in 1942 right up to the present. Yes, the 709th Military Police Battalion is still active and headquartered in Hanau.
In 2002 the association was incorporated and the members voted to assess dues of $10 a year to all members. This money is used for mailings and up front money for reunions. It was also decided that only paid-up members would be eligible to attend reunions and receive newsletters and mailings. The association has a reunion every year.
